Welcome to Loreto

A message from our Principal

Loreto Secondary School has been at the heart of our community since 1868. For over 150 years, we have built a reputation for educational excellence – but, just as importantly, for nurturing the growth of the whole person. At Loreto, we pride ourselves on the calm, respectful and joyful atmosphere that fills our school. This spirit is created by the people who make up our community – dedicated teachers who demonstrate genuine care for their students, and students who take pride in their school and in the global Loreto community.

As a Catholic school, founded in the Loreto tradition, we are guided by Gospel values and the inspiring vision of Mary Ward. At Loreto, the values of justice, freedom, sincerity, truth, and joy are not only at the heart of all we do, but they inspire our vision for every student — shaping daily life in our school and nurturing young people who will become responsible and active citizens. We are committed to supporting every student’s personal, spiritual and academic development – inside the classroom and beyond it – through a wide range of extra- and co-curricular opportunities.

Our students achieve wonderful success in sport, the arts, debating and many other fields, and we celebrate participation as much as achievement. We believe that leadership transforms young lives, and so we create many opportunities for our students to lead and serve – from Student Council and Senior Prefects to Games Captains, Peer Mentors, Green Schools and Ethos Prefects. These experiences help them grow in confidence, responsibility and compassion.

As a parent, we know you are asking important questions:

Will my daughter be cared for?

Will she be supported to reach her academic potential, whatever her ability?

Will she be given opportunities for personal growth that help her to live a meaningful life?

At Loreto, our answer to each of these questions is a wholehearted yes!

Every student is valued for who they are, encouraged to discover their gifts and supported to become the best version of themselves.

Places in Loreto are offered in accordance with our Admission Policy.  If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.  With our modern facilities on the Granges Road and our culture which seeks continual improvement, these are exciting times for our school.  I can assure you, that as we continue to develop, our students’ interests will continue to be at the centre of everything we do in Loreto.

A Word From Our Deputy Principals

Loreto Secondary School provides a values-based education where all students are nurtured in a warm, caring environment. Each teacher plays a role in what we see as a whole-school approach to the pastoral care of each student. Resources that further support this care are Guidance and Counselling, Home School Liaison, Learning Support, Year Head, Class Tutor, Student Council and the peer mentors. This results in a friendly and positive atmosphere in the school which is based on mutual respect between staff and students.

We also value very highly our cooperation with parents as the primary educators, as it is only in partnership with them that students will reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives. We welcome and encourage parents to attend information nights, parent teacher meetings, cultural and sporting events and the many activities run by our Parents’ Association.

I hope that by attending our Open Night and consulting our website you will have the information required to make an informed choice about our school. If you require any further clarification, do not hesitate to contact us.
